Waver, bamboo light by Yuusuke Yamamoto, a bamboo
craftsman in Kyoto.
Every single piece of bamboo was
bent by heating it over a fire.
Kyoto bamboo is known for it's
great strength. With it's extremes of climate, burningly
hot in the summer and bitingly cold in the winter,
the bamboo in Kyoto grows firm and strong.
Because of it's strength, Kyoto
bamboo was chosen by Thomas Edison to make the filaments
in his light bulbs.
Choosing fine white bamboo, Yuusuke
Yamamoto further lightened it by roasting it over
a charcoal fire. Firm but flexible, the bamboo can
be bent in any direction.
The whole process was done by hand by Yuusuke Yamamoto
to create this fantastic illumination.
It's good to rediscover the intrinsic
value of hand-made crafts in today's world of mass
factory produced items.
